Every 1st Thursday of every month, heralds the opening night of many exhibitions across London.
Being at Uni in the East End of London brings me into frequent contact with the Whitechapel gallery and It’s first Thursday walking tour of galleries in the east end. They also do a bus tour for the lucky few who are picked.
I was lucky enough to spend this first Thursday in the company of fellow artist, Cass Alumni and exhibitor in the Bloomberg new contemporary exhibition, Adam Wallace.
We only really got as far as The Whitechapel Gallery which had a great exhibition of works by artists living and working in London, called The London Open. Artists throughout London can submit works to a panel, who decide what is shown. The panel is made up of high profile art world figures and they selected the work of 48 artists from 2.133 applicants.

One of my favourite pieces was by an artist called Madalina Zaharia, the work is called Cheeky. Cheek E. 2013. Photolithographic prints mounted on aluminium and mild steel.
I like the simplicity of the Text Play.
The second piece is a very minimalist type painting although the delicacy involved in making something so striking shouldn’t be undermined by my use of the term minimalist.
The artist is called Mary Ramsden and the painting is one of a series of paintings entitled Tight Licks. This one is Oil paint on Aluminium.
If you are ever fortunate enough to visit the East End on the first Thursday of any month then a trip to the Whitechapel Gallery is a must for art lovers. Just pop in and ask for the tour map and you should be busy all evening.
